Trending: Aloha! Island & Hawaiian Prints

Have you been watching Milan Fashion Week? If you have, you've probably been seeing the ever growing island/Hawaiian print trend explode! It seemed like every third show so far has featured some spin on traditional Malaysian/Singaporean batik and Hawaiian prints. I'm in love with the whimsical, fun nature of these prints.

Splashes of bright colors and playful forms truly popped between the starker, more monochromatic, texture focused runway shows such as Gabriele Colangelo and Jil Sander (no surprise here). Dolce and Gabbana took on a more east Asian route (think cherry blossoms and Chinese scroll) for prints and florals. Marni featured graphic florals, but the colors were more muted and it felt like they may have been inspired by mid-20th century wallpaper prints perhaps found at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Nonetheless, island prints made a resounding rally. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the week plays out.

Athletic Inspired: Track Pants

After drafing a pair of lace trim shorts it was clear what my next project was: track pants or as some call them, joggers. One of this year’s hot new runway and street style pieces, track pants are equal parts sporty and chic. They are perfectly sophisticated with a blazer and completely cool and comfortable with a pullover or silk tee. After starting my pattern drafting I found a gorgeous pair of silk charmeuse joggers. I needed them but not for the $298 retail.

So I kept on drafting and decided to try my pattern in some black crepe fabric I had. The result was wonderful! The crepe is the perfect amount of weight to feel substantial and ethereal lightness to make it them the most comfortable pair of pants I have. The waist and ankle bands are made of a soft black jersey. The waist also has a crepe drawstring and is elasticized. I also used couture French seams because I think the insides of a garment should be as beautiful as the outside! Awesome? Yes. Plus, I got compliments on the first day out in them so I really can't complain. I still plan to make a pair in either satin or silk charmeuse. :)

While I will be holding on to my pair (tightly) I have enough fabric to make more so pop over to my shop and get a look!

Let me know what you think!

Street Style Trends: Big Belts & Patchwork

I was clicking through Tommy Ton street style snaps and found a couple fun trends that are easy enough to try at home, namely: oversize belt buckles (pilgrim style) and patchwork jeans in a myriad of textures and prints. I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of old boyfriend jeans and a scrap fabric bin! I'm thinking turquoise sequins...

Trend: Pop Leather Jackets

Moto jackets have been everywhere for a while... from runways to red carpets, posh street style and the underground. Leather has of course gotten around just as much. This spring get inspired by a fresher take on the look with fashion colored leather jackets! I'm personally in love with the dusty red IRO, cracked acid green Rag & Bone, and the sleek looking cobalt Helmut Lang. What jacket are you lusting after at this moment?

Trend: Printed Athletic Inspired Pants

So you want a pair of printed athletic pants... here are a few to whet your palette. I'm in love with the first and second to last pair. Of course if you want to go a little more traditional, there are tons of solid colored pairs to be found out there. I personally have my eye on a black pair with a white stripe down the side. I think it's the Sporty Spice in me calling to my 90s roots.

Eudon Choi

Eudon Choi is a guy who has gotten around the fashion world. Born in Korea, he was initially trained as a menswear designer in Seoul, acquiring an in-depth knowledge of tailoring techniques and a great eye for detail. After 4 years of experience in menswear, he moved to London to attend the Royal College of Art's MA in womenswear.

Eudon was hired as a senior designer at All Saints a year before graduation and his RCA graduate collection was sold at London's Dover Street Market. In 2008 he became a senior designer at Twenty8Twelve before leaving in 2009 to launch his eponymous label. Shop some of this amazing collection here.

I really love the clean line, minimal use of color, and daring yet sparing and appropriate use of texture. Wrap skirts and popover tops are a runway trends we've been seeing in the past few seasons and Choi definitely makes his mark with his own take on the silhouettes. Thoughts on the fez (Turkish style hats) anyone?
