Mothership Connection

You guys might not know this, but since I was a kid I have been obsessed with space and ancient Egypt. Strange I know, but yes, I went to space camp, and yes, sixth grade history class was amazing... I mean, who doesn't want to learn about how the Egyptians pulled out brains through a dead dudes nose during the embalming process? Now it seems like both of those topics are big, hot trends in the fashion world... especially since Balenciaga's scifi pullovers (below).

Nevertheless, I recently found my space inspiration from some place else: Parliament Funkadelic! The moment I saw the graphic for the Mothership Connection album I fell in love and a t-shirt needed to happen. This outfit speaks volumes for having a great graphic tee in your closet even if it's not terribly fitted. I paired the tee with a black blazer but ultimately decided it would be way cooler to see the graphic more!

Trend: Clean Collar Coat

I was flipping through some Fall 2012 collections this weekend and had to make my usual stops at Jil Sander and Balenciaga: two of my favorite designers. You can imagine my shock when I looked at the first two opening outfits for each show and saw the same coat staring back at me in different fabric. Jil Sander and Balenciaga are overlapping!? What is happening in this world??

I think I've found one of my new DIY projects...

... if I can get off my lazy butt and complete all the other DIYs I have in my head first.

FW 2010 Shoes of Balenciaga

If you haven't checked out the Balenciaga FW 2010 collection yet, you MUST. It sports signature Balenciaga shoulders, but bold colours that have only been a feature of the past few collections. His colours in this collection go from electric blue and teal to orange. It's a collection that I'm in love with again. It reminds me why I ALWAYS keep Balenciaga at the very top of my list.

Because I would most likely post the ENTIRE FW 2010 collection on here if I was selecting pieces, I decided to restrict myself to the shoes. Enjoy. I think they are exquisite!

Remember this post? I think teal is going to be hot this fall.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I really, truly, appreciate it.

Seriously In Love With Balenciaga!

I first fell in love with fashion when I fell in love with Balenciaga. My favourite spring collection is SS 2007 and my favourite fall in FW 2008. However, this pre-fall 2010 collection really blew me away. There is absolutely not a SINGLE look I do not like in the collection. The yellow is just stunning (I do have a soft spot for yellow though). I like the use of rich muted tones too.

Oddly enough, in my History of Clothing class this semester, I'm currently studying the Cavalier Period. There are blatant aspects that are pulled from the Cavalier Period in this collection... Like the gauntlet gloves and "rounded" look of the women (especially in their shoulders), and even the "high-er" looking waist. All in all it is still very much in the style of Balenciaga: a shocking look mixed with the classic look of the house.

There is really just so much I could write about this collection... but I'll spare you.

once i wore balenciaga

let me just say, i love balenciaga.

you know, like, love it enough that i own a book of the designs, spent way too much on a pair of pants, and trucked myself to the balenciaga store in nyc to try on my favourite dress from the SS07 collection when it came out.

so i fell in love with this dress and was dying to have it. but because i didn't have 3000 dollars lying around, or a used car to cash in i settled for trying it on.

first of all, i walked into the store and couldn't find the dress ANYWHERE. (the sotre layout is awesome). so i eventually go up the nerve to ask an attendant if they had the dress in the back.

she said that they had JUST gotten the dress in right off the runway and they only had it in one size. i decided to go for it. well it fit!! the fabric and construction of the dress was amazing. (amazing enough that i'm writing about it 3 years later). this is what it looked like on the runway:

as you can tell, i'm no model (definitely not tall enough, nor thin enough), but balenciaga is truly made for the female figure. oh and sorry for the blurry photos. but yeah... i love balenciaga.

have a similar story about a stupid designer obsession?? share it!!!!
